Dreeni Geer, Global Director of Child Rights, Equality, and Social Justice

Dreeni is a lawyer by education who has worked and lived in North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe supporting the rights of children, and multiple equity-seeking groups in humanitarian and development contexts.  She is a Canadian working from Canada, but was born in Guyana.

Steve Miller, Global Director of Child Protection

Steve Miller is the Global Director of Child Protection, taking responsibility for the delivery of our Live Free from Violence Breakthrough. 

Tory Clawson, Migration & Displacement Initiative Director

Tory Clawson is the Migration & Displacement Initiative Director, having taken up that role in March 2022 after serving as the Strategy, Quality and Technical Excellence Director for the Program Quality & Impact Team since 2016. Prior to joining Save the Children International, Tory worked for Save the Children US.  Tory is a graduate of Yale Law School and Trinity College.

Revati Phalkey, Global Director Health & Nutrition

Dr. Revati Phalkey is the SCI Global Director Health and Nutrition and leader of the Healthy Start in Life goal. Prior to joining SCI, she was Head of the Climate Change and Health Unit at the UK Health Security Agency (UKSHA) where she led policy and advocacy work for health and climate change, nationally and internationally. Revati’s main interests and expertise include infectious disease control, maternal and child health and nutrition, and health systems strengthening with a focus on operationalizing resilience. She comes with extensive experience of working with large interdisciplinary, multi-centre, multi-country teams in West and East Africa, South and Central Asia, and Europe.  She holds an Honorary Associate Professorship in Global Health at the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health (HIGH), Germany, and the University of Nottingham, UK.

Susan Nicolai, Global Director Education

Susan Nicolai is Save the Children’s new Global Director Education/Learn. She previously worked with Save the Children as the founding Coordinator for the Global Education Cluster, a co-creator of the first global campaign, Rewrite the Future, and an early member of Save the Children UK’s humanitarian team, deploying to crises around the globe. Over the past decade, Susan has worked as a senior researcher with the global affairs think tank ODI, leading its Development Progress project to help shape the SDGs, playing a key role in the design of Education Cannot Wait, and serving as a founding Director with the EdTech Hub. She holds expertise in education systems reform, coherence, and coordination, and has worked closely with the likes of UK FCDO, BMGF, UNICEF, UNESCO, and the World Bank.

Michael O'Donnell, Director of Evidence and Learning

Michael is the Director of Evidence and Learning in SCI Centre, with overall responsibility for our monitoring, evaluation, accountability, learning and research work. Michael first joined Save the Children UK in 1999 in South Sudan, and worked in a variety of humanitarian contexts and as a global technical advisor. After ten years with SC UK, Michael tried out a number of other NGOs, a donor and a network, but returned 'home' to Save the Children in 2019.

Bester Mulauzi, Global Director PSDQ

A seasoned international humanitarian and development expert with over 17 years of project management and leadership experience at Country, Regional and Global level. An agile leader skilled in Monitoring, Evaluation, Human Centered Program Design, Resource Mobilization Social Enterprise and Leadership. Experience working for Government, International NGOs and the United Nations. A strategist with a Masters Degree in Strategic Management and professional qualifications and certifications in Project Management.

Gabriella Waaijman, Humanitarian Director

Gabriella is Save the Children’s Global Humanitarian Director, as of 2019.  She previously worked for UNDP and OCHA between 2000 to 2014 in different positions in Southern and Eastern Africa and Central Asia. In 2014, she moved over to NRC as their Regional Director for the Horn and Yemen, a position she held for 4 years.  From 2017-2019, she headed DFID’s Humanitarian Operations and Stabilisation Team, managed through a contract with the Palladium Group.

Ulrika Cilliers, Global Policy & Advocacy Director

Ulrika Cilliers has been leading our global policy and advocacy work for the last four years. Previously, she worked as Save the Children’s Global Head of Child Rights Governance Policy and Advocacy and in various advocacy and programming roles in Africa. Before joining Save the Children, she worked for the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on global peace and security, human rights and African issues. Ulrika is a passionate advocate for and with children and their rights and keen to use the power of advocacy and campaigning to drive impact at scale.

Catherine Potvin, Acting Lead Localisation Initiative

Catherine is the Interim Lead for the Localisation Initiative, and a Senior Lead Business Analyst at SCI. Her diverse background uniquely blends several areas highly pertinent to our development and humanitarian work, including medical sciences, international development, education, migration & intercultural relations, and business. Fluent in French, English, Spanish, and German, Catherine is based in Belgium.

Kelley Toole, Global Head of Climate Change

Kelley drives our strategic approach and organisational commitment to tackling the climate crisis through child-rights-based climate programming and advocacy that is evidence-based and derived from country needs. Kelley joined SCI in October 2022 because she is passionate about climate justice and see's child rights as at the heart of tackling the climate crisis.  Kelley has over twenty years of experience working on poverty reduction and climate change for the UK government and UN agencies, primarily in Africa. She worked with the Zambia social cash transfer programme from pilot stage to a national, shock responsive programme; has developed and implemented programmes in a wide range of sectors; influenced national policies; and built capacity within UK embassies and partners to integrate climate into their policy and programming work.

Casey Harrity, Deputy Director Humanitarian Programs

Casey Harrity is the Deputy Director, Humanitarian Programs for Save the Children International. She is Humanitarian professional with more than fifteen years of experience including complex emergency assignments in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan and Sudan. She is an expert in developing organizational strategies; managing and scaling programs; and measuring impact and skilled at working with local governments, local partners and community stakeholders. She is a graduate of l’Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris with a Master of Public Affairs concentrating in Human Security. She previously worked with Mercy Corps as Director of Programs - North Syria before joining Save the Children in various capacities as a Senior Manager- Program Development, Director of Program Development and Quality; and Senior Director, Humanitarian Programs.

Le Wang, Director New York Advocacy Office

With over 16 years of senior management and leadership experience in the International Development and private sector, I have built strong leadership skills and a proven track recode strategic and operational achievements, especially in new business development and adaptation in the fast-changing social environment.

Throughout different roles, I led teams for humanitarian response at the front line and had high-level representation with national ministries and at the UN chapel for policy lobbying, including sensitive topics. I love challenging tasks and like to achieve results with a team together. I am passionate about systematically and sustainably bringing innovative solutions to social challenges with children and local stakeholders. My expertise focuses on child rights, inclusion, and humanitarian from the professional knowledge.

My work and life experience across Asia, Africa and Europe has fostered my ability to thrive in a multi-culture environment.

Michel Anglade, Director Geneva Advocacy Officer

Michel Anglade is the Director of the Save the Children’s office in Geneva, one of the organisation’s three global advocacy offices.
Michel is leading Save the Children’s advocacy and policy work in Geneva to advocate for better practices and policies to fulfil children’s rights. He brings to this position more than twenty-five years of experience, as a child rights specialist, as a humanitarian worker and as an advocacy practitioner.

Prior to his present position, Michel worked for seven years as Save the Children’s Campaign and Advocacy Director for Asia, based in the SCI Asia Regional Office in Singapore.
Michel also worked with Oxfam from 2000 to 2011, in various leadership positions in Asia and in Africa. He started working in the field of humanitarian assistance and development work in 1995 and undertook various assignments with Doctors without Borders and with Action Against Hunger.

Hassatou Conde-Sambou, Head of Campaigns

Hassatou Condé joined SCI in 2021 and has been leading the Global Campaigns team since December 2022. She is a committed human rights and child rights campaigner. Prior to joining Save the Children, she worked for ten years in human rights advocacy and campaigning including at Amnesty International and Terre des Hommes International Federation. She is passionate about championing the rights of children, advocating for better protection for them, and promoting their  engagement and participation in national, regional and global processes, including by building their power to campaign for meaningful change.

Tamer Kirolos, Gulf Initiative Director

Tamer has over 28 years of experience in development and humanitarian work. Since March 2023 he has been the Director for Save the Children’s Gulf Initiative based in Dubai. Tamer has a BSc in Construction Engineering and a MSc in Construction Management.  After working in an architect/engineering firm for a couple of years he began his development experience with SC in Egypt as a Technical Project Supervisor on a WASH Program. He then established and managed SC Egypt’s Micro-Finance program.  Tamer moved on to be National Coordinator of a local NGO in Egypt before becoming Assistant Regional Director for CARE Middle East and Europe Regional Office.  For Save the Children, Tamer has also been a Program Director in Egypt and a Country Director in Jordan, Zambia, Yemen and Egypt.

Cecilia Chatterjee Martinsen, International Programs Director

Experienced and entrepreneurial Executive Director /CEO. Skilled in Business Development, International Relations, Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, Media Engagement, Sales, Marketing, International Development, Business Strategy and Event Management. Strong business development professional with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/International Marketing and a Master's degree focused in Humanitarian Assistance Management from Uppsala University. Is always passionate about what she does, or she would not be doing it.

Veesh Sharma, Chief Assurance Officer and Acting Chief Risk Officer

Veesh has led Save the Children’s internal audit business unit (Global Assurance) since 2016 – restructuring it into a team with a global footprint, and driving deep alignment between organisational strategy and the internal audit work plan. Since 2020, Veesh has been leading the expansion of GA’s remit from SCI to Member organisations such as SCUS, SC Philippines, SC Australia (Pacific), SCUK and others. This transformation is part of a vision to establish a ‘Truly Global’ assurance unit across the Agency; reduce duplication & complexity; and drive cost efficiency. 

In August 2022, Veesh took on additional responsibilities as SCI’s Interim CRO, and has been leading on a revised, ‘objective-centric’ risk framework and approach for the movement, in addition to overseeing SCI’s risk, safeguarding, counter-fraud, and insurance business units. Veesh qualified at Deloitte LLP, and has an academic background in International Development, Economics, and Modern History.

Sophie Amili, Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Lead

Sophie Amili (She/her) is the Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Lead at Save the Children International. As a new position for the organisation, Sophie joined last year to help accelerate progress in DEI, working with employee networks and colleagues in our country and regional offices to drive forward progress in line with our global 2022-24 strategy. Prior to joining SCI, Sophie was the DEI Lead at an international development consultancy that delivers development programmes worldwide. In previous roles she was also a Senior Evaluation Consultant and led the inclusive Gender and Social Inclusion team to ensure a joined-up approach to inclusive programming across the business.  Sophie has previously also worked for the OECD and the World Bank.

Melissa Balzan, Global Strategy Lead

Melissa is the Global Lead on content of our global strategy. She had a lead role developing our current 2022-24 strategy and has held various strategy roles in Save the Children over more than five years. Before joining Save the Children, Melissa held strategy and partnership roles with the United Nations Development Program in Bangladesh and their regional Asia Pacific Hub. This followed over six years with the Australian Government in program development and implementation, partnering with government counterparts across the Asia and Pacific regions.

She holds a Masters in Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development and a Bachelors in Asian and International Studies.

Anita Bay, SC Europe Director

Anita Bay Bundegaard read English and Spanish at the University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen Business School. She worked as a radio host for the Danish Broadcasting Company before joining the Danish daily, Politiken as Op-Ed editor. She was appointed Minister for Development Cooperation in 2000 and later worked as a Special Adviser to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). From 2010-2014 she was chairman of Save the Children Denmark and then joined SCI as International Advocacy Director. In 2019 she became the Director of SC Europe and from May 2022-May 2023 she was the SCI interim Global Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Director.
